About Your Teacher

     Mrs. Honan grew up in a large family that included one older sister and four brothers.  She has lived at the Jersey Shore her entire life. As a child she attended St. Rose Grammar School followed by St. Rose High School in Belmar, NJ.  After working a few years she set out for Kentucky and received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky. 

         Mrs. Honan has worked in Manchester now for about twenty-two years.  When she first started in the district she worked as a basic skills math teacher  and then went on to teach 5th grade at the Middle School.

     Ten months after her daughter,  Kerri was born, Mrs. Honan returned to work at Whiting School where she taught 5th grade. She was soon joined at the 5th grade level by Mrs. Aggie Hawley. Together they utilized a team teaching approach with Mrs. Hawley teaching the Social Studies and Language Arts program and Mrs. Honan teaching the Science and Math program.

     Mrs. Honan and Mrs. Swanson teamed up many times to c0-write grants to support  Whiting School and various programs at the school.  Some of their favorite accomplishments were being recognized as a New Jersey Wild Outdoor Science Garden, receiving a grant from the NJ Dept. of Education for a Best Practice in Banking and being recognized as a New Jersey Tree School.  

     Now, Mrs. Honan is the technology teacher for grades 1 through 5 at  Ridgeway School and grades 3 - 5 at Whiting School. She is the teacher for the Gifted & Talented program, grades 3 - 5, at Ridgeway School.      

     Mrs. Honan spends a few days a week working towards her masters degree in Instructional Technology at Georgian Court University.

In her spare time Mrs. Honan is a volunteer with the Optimist Club of  Brick.

Mrs. Honan enjoys camping, canoeing and gardening with her family and is an avid amateur bird watcher.
